NCS Trip To Alaska

This summer we are offering a wonderful opportunity for us to travel together on an exciting tour to British Columbia and Alaska, including cruising on board Princess Cruise Lines ship, the Diamond Princess. This will be a chance for us to trade ideas, work on our own projects and develop concepts for new art pieces. Gretchen Bierbaum will be with us as we construct our work, assisting whenever needed and being a catalyst for creativity. John Allensworth, a professor of geography and geosciences at Georgia State University will talk with us about the exciting landscape and history during our travels. John, with his JADE (John Allensworth’s Discovery Expeditions) has been a field trip and tour leader for 33 years, leading expeditions and tours to Alaska, New Mexico, the Yucatan, Central America, Ireland, India, Bhutan and China.

The tour departs on July 19 from Cleveland (or your hometown airport) to Vancouver. On July 20 we will travel to Vancouver Island and visit Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. The highlight of this day’s activities will be our visit to Butchart Gardens, considered to be among one of the finest floral gardens in the world, encompassing 55 acres and thousands of varieties of flowers, shrubs, trees and exotics.

On July 21, we board our ship, the Diamond Princess, and set out to sea for Alaska. On our seven days at sea, we will travel through the Inland Passage of Alaska, with stops for shore visits at three historic towns, including Ketchikan, the salmon capital and famous for its many displays of totem poles; Juneau, Alaska’s capital located in a spectacular setting along the fjord and backed by spectacular mountains; and Skagway, the gateway to the 1898 Klondike gold fields and today preserved in its gold rush days charm.

After sailing through spectacular water passages along mighty glaciers in Glacier Bay and College Fjord, we arrive in Whittier where we will transfer to Anchorage. Hopefully, we will have a chance to see mighty humpback whales on our cruise in this region. Arriving in Anchorage we will spend the next day, July 29, to explore Anchorage and visit galleries and visit with local artists. We will have an end of tour celebration dinner on our final evening before our return home on the 30th. It will be a wonderful trip and we hope that you will be able to join us.

The tour cost is approximately $3,900 per person, sharing a double and includes round-trip airfare, the seven day cruise, lodging in Vancouver for two nights and Anchorage for one night, tours to Victoria and Butchart Gardens, shore tours in Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway and a tour of Anchorage. Meals are included on the cruise and on the final evening’s celebration.
